River Valley Golf Course PGA ProJoshua P. Barnes

Growing up on an Iowa farm, Josh learned the value of hard work and patience.  He uses those lessons every day; in golf, and in life.  River Valley has been his home course, as he learned the game playing here as a kid.  Josh’s interest in golf continued to influence him a great deal throughout high school and college.  He attended Mississippi State University, where he received a Marketing degree with an emphasis in Professional Golf Management.  He went on to receive his class A PGA certification in October of 2006.  Now, back in Iowa, he looks forward to spending time getting to know everyone at River Valley Golf Club.

Teaching Philosophy:

Learning the fundamentals is the basis for any swing.  A golf swing is unique and should fit the individual.  A golfer can only find their swing when they are comfortable and relaxed.  Both comfort and relaxation are key elements in making a good, consistent swing through the ball.  I also believe that it is imperative for all students to set goals.  Setting goals allow students to work towards a specific achievement and are a great way to monitor overall improvement.

Play your game ….. Improve your score.

Josh's Tip of the Month

Golf is Supposed to be Relaxing!

Practice!  Practice!  Practice!  Take some time out of each week to practice.  The biggest issue I see with most people is that they complain about being inconsistent.  The easiest way to solve being inconsistent is to practice.  Practice your short game!!  I guarantee if you take an hour two times a week and practice putting and chipping you will shave 3-5 strokes off your round and you don't even have to do that at the course you can putt in your house and chip in your yard.  Put in the time and it will pay off.
